This heddle stick came to Winterthur as part of a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. Heddle sticks form part of the shaft of a loom's shaft, which raises and lowers threads in the warp to create a shed. There are no string heddles tied onto this stick.
